How is an eco surfboard built?
What is a sustainable surfboard?
Here is what we do...
WOOD VENEERS, FLAX AND CORK We use natural fibre reinforcements with modern techniques to get the structure, flex and longevity out of our boards.
CORE All of our constructions use a biomass expanded polystyrene (EPS) core. Unlike traditional EPS ours are made from biomass taken from the waste of food production, like sticks and husks after everything useful has been taken. Which massively reduces our use of fossil fuels in the boards. Find more info on the foam here.
GLASS AND EPOXY We glass our boards with high quality high bio content epoxies, which is less harmful, much stronger and longer lasting than traditional resins. We use Resin Research epoxies as they are super high quality with great properties and they are always striving to improve on sustainability and quality. Always with an increasing bio content.
Our use of biomass blanks and natural fibres to replace glass and resins, means our boards are some of the most sustainable boards available. Made with an extremely low percentage of crude oil.
We even hand-make our leash plugs using Cornish applewood and a stainless steel pin, which ages beautifully without losing its integrity. All our boards are hand-built with love and pride in our wind-powered workshop in Cornwall.
Fin systems
FCS II fin boxes and FCS longboard boxes are our common choice of fin boxes and plugs, and you can choose whichever (thruster, twinny, single fin etc) set up suits your board and style.
Glassed in is also an option. Contact us to add this on.
Your Board
We will work with you to make sure you get the perfect custom board, even regularly surf with customers to make sure they are getting the right board for them. Any fin set up. Any board style. We design the board in 3D for you to see before it is made. See below for current waiting times.
There is pretty much no limit to what we can do with design, if you can imagine it, we can do it. Obviously with extra costs for crazy stuff, but we are more than keen, and have loved the ideas we have had the chance to bring to life so far.

Buying from us means you are buying directly from the shaper and helps us to keep our prices down. You are also doing your bit to change the system of board manufacturing, for the better. Our boards take twice the time to build as a standard one and the quality shows it. Almost all of our materials now come from the UK (working on the rest) so our boards have done 0 zero miles when you receive them and you get a top quality service and product at the end. Support small business.
Waiting times currently at about 8-16 weeks. We are still taking orders but waiting times are long at the moment. We are currently having a big revamp of the website and workshop.
