In this one week (5-6 day) Build your own surfboard workshop, we will guide you through each step of the process of building a wood veneered Predn Surfboard.
Our boards are a hybrid mix of super light weight materials and natural fibre reinforcements. So you will be leaving with a high performance, lightweight and durable board which you will want to use again and again.
You can choose from a large selection of shapes and sizes to build and custom shapes can be arranged also.
Our methods are a fusion of traditional and modern and all safety equipment, tools, materials and workshop space will be provided.
We only take two pupils on at a time, so we can make sure that enough attention is given to each person.
Our purpose built, wind powered, teaching facility is fully equipped for all your needs and with many nearby surfing beaches and an indoor climbing and bouldering wall next door, there is plenty to do in your down time, whilst you are here.
You must be comfortable with using sanders, mixing resins, glassing and hand tools. Although, full training and guidance will be provided constantly throughout the course.
We will take you through each stage step by step and be there with any help needed for the tricky bits, to ensure you leave with an awesome board you are forever happy with. Dependent on ability, you may want us to help with the final touches, as the final stages of glassing are some of the most important parts.
The blanks will already be shaped when you arrive, as these are done on a machine and we will have them prepped and ready to go for you to start.
Day one - Arrive at the workshop in the morning. Meet and great. Quick health and safety briefing and workshop tour. Then on to glassing the bases of your surfboards.
Day two - Is when we glue the wood veneers on to the decks of the boards.
Day three - This is always the longest day, where we paint all the rails, add any artwork, fit fin boxes and glass the deck, all in one day. But don't worry, we are here to make sure it all get's done in time and properly.
Day four - The final layer of glass goes onto the base and all the hot coats (final resin layers) are applied.
Day five and six (if needed) - we like to allow two days of sanding and polishing and refining to get your boards ship shape and shiny and ready for the waves :) If any help is needed with this stage it will be given.
This is a pretty intensive course, and you will learn every aspect of how to build and finish a surfboard, and hopefully have lots of fun and make some friends along the way.
All of our teachers are actual shapers that work within the company, all super friendly and eager to share their skills.
